Date :Note :
It has many isotopes, the most important of which is the fissile plutonium-239 which is made in breeder reactors from uranium-238 by absorption of neutrons. The isotopes of mass numbers 240, 241 and 242 are produced by side reactions in nuclear reactors; plutonium 241 is fissile. The presence of these isotopes makes the waste products from breeder reactors highly dangerous and complicates their disposal. The fertile isotope plutonium-238 is used as a fuel source in the nuclear cell. Atomic number: 94; atomic masses: 238, 239, 240, 241, 242; melting point: 640°C; boiling point: 3200°C; density: 19,814 kgm-3 (19.8g/cm3).
