  Unlike the spars, the longerons are not truly beams. They are rather extrusions of greater strength than the stringers and whose function is similar to spars, in the sense that they take bending loads. This is why they are sometimes referred to as stringers, specially in small aircraft.
  
  Note that engine nacelle also includes longerons.
