  Définition

  "A tubular bioreactor in which the height is several times the diameter. (...) A typical system consists of a vertical cylinder with a conical base, topped by a large-diameter settling zone fitted with baffles. Nutrient solution is pumped in at the base. In general, flocculant yeast or filamentous fungi are used, since these will tend to form a plug which is retained in the lower part of the vertical tube when fermenter is run as a continuous system. Thus there is no requirement for a mechanical separation and recycling of the biomass".
