  Dressing is the operation of cleaning or restoring the sharpness of the wheel face that has become dulled of loaded with material being ground; for certain classes of work, where a commercial finish is acceptable, mechanical or abrasive wheel dressers have been found to be less expensive but effective substitute for diamonds; if the dressing operation is accomplished by using a diamond tool, the tool should always be set at an angle to the wheel face, with the angle pointing in the same direction as the grinding travel to prevent grounding the wheel face; this is sometimes referred to as the "drag angle"; the toolholder sometimes is also canted 30° from the plane of the wheel.
  
  A device for truing the face of, or forming a contour on the face of a grinding wheel.
