In general, a conceptual graph is a diagrammatic representation of meaning consisting of "nodes" (that represent "concepts") joined by arcs (that represent "relations" between concepts) . Since Sowa (1984), the term bas taken a more specific meaning, referring to a formalism developed from "semantic networks" but based more strongly on "logic" and the "operations" of logical "inference".
One conceptual graph represents the meaning of a single sentence. Though essentially nothing new is introduced by Sowa, the resulting notation is precise and flexible and is able to represent first order logic and some higher order and modal operators. There are also well-defined operations that implement first-order deductive reasoning.Terme :
