Définition :
Organisation établie pour superviser la gestion de multiples interventions qui sont gérées par un système de commandement des interventions distinct, ou pour superviser la gestion d'une intervention de très grande envergure ou en évolution, à laquelle participent de multiples équipes de gestion d'intervention.
Note :
C'est un dirigeant ou cadre d'agence ou un autre représentant officiel ayant la responsabilité de l'intervention qui prend généralement la décision d'établir un commandement territorial. Le commandement territorial n'est activé qu'au besoin, selon la complexité de l'intervention et des considérations relatives au ratio d'encadrement pour la gestion de l'intervention.

An organization established to oversee the management of multiple incidents that are each being handled by a separate Incident Command System organization, or to oversee the management of a very large or evolving incident that has multiple incident management teams engaged.
Note :
An Agency Executive/Administrator or other public official with jurisdictional responsibility for the incident usually makes the decision to establish an Area Command. An Area Command is activated only if necessary, depending on the complexity of the incident and span-of-control considerations.
