Grandeur scalaire définie, pour un champ de vecteurs V (p. ex. vecteur vent), par la relation : div V = (∂u /∂x) + (∂v /∂y) + (∂w /∂z), où u , v et w sont les composantes du vecteur V selon les axes rectangulaires x , y et z .
Note :
La « divergence horizontale » se définit en omettant le terme ∂w /∂z .
