  Precoat filters. The filters are precoated by the circulation of a suspension of the precoat material through the filter from an external tank. This establishes a precoat bed. If the material to be filtered contains solids that would form a slimy cake, for instance "haze" from beer, additional precoat material must be added continuously to the feed so that the cake deposited is kept open or porous to give the filter a long, effective life.
  
  These filters are not often used for the final "polishing" filtration of beer.
