It is difficult to say just where bending ends and flanging begins. Basically, the operation is called flanging when the amount formed down is small in relation to the remainder of the part. Of course, there are still those operations that may be called either bending or flanging because the amount bent or formed down is larger than most flanges but still smaller than the area not formed down.
