Celure constantly occurs in medieval Latin chiefly in the sense of canopy. The term is always mentioned in connection with beds but what part of the hanging was intended is doubtful. It is sometimes explained as a canopy covering. Celure and tester are very frequently mentioned together, the latter being a canopy over a bed supported on the posts of a bedstead or suspended from the ceiling.
