  This higher circuit density presented the challenge of heat dissipation. To meet this challenge, IBM design engineers created the temperature landscape that you see here by testing and running simulation modules. The chips are positioned in such a way that the cooling air flows through the hottest portion of the card first. This provides an even temperature, dissipating the heat over the entire surface of the card.
