  Chromium release (cytotoxicity) assay is used to measure the activity of cytotoxic cells. The target cells are first mixed with radio-active 51Cr which is taken up by viable cells. These are then incubated with the test leucocytes. If the test cells damage the targets the 51 Cr is released and can be measured in the supernatant.
