  ESCON Multiple Image Facility addresses the requirement to share ESCON channels and input/output (I/O) devices across logical partitions. Prior to the announcement of ESCON Multiple Image Facility, channels were dedicated to individual partitions for access to I/0 devices shared by multiple images running on the same processor. Today's announcement provides the capability to share a physical ESCON channel path among multiple logical partitions.
