Définition :

Au XVIII^e siècle, on donna, par analogie, le nom de gondole aux sièges dont le dossier était arrondi, faisant corps avec les accotoirs.

Note :

La bergère en gondole est une bergère au dossier plus important, se terminant en arc surbaissé et pourvue de deux courts accotoirs.

A gondola-shaped seat is an upholstered seat whose back curves forward at both sides to form the arms.

Note :

Under the reign of Louis XV, another type of bergère, often referred to as gondola-shaped, had an arched horseshoe-shaped back continuing to form the arms. The back and sides curved around a semi-circular seat and where upholstered as one unit.
