  Note :

  Essentially similar to the lit à la turque was the lit d'anglais. The exotic names for beds were unlimited and the reminology of this furniture is baffling. The term anglais or the expression à l'anlaise does not always imply that the form came from England. It was simply a fashionable word. Around the 1780's English styles were much in vogue in France, hence the chaise à l'anglaise, a chair with an openworked wood back, the table à l'anglaise and the lit à l'anglaise, both of Turkish type but reflecting the English influence.
