Définition :
Petit plateau rond porté par une colonne reposant sur un piètement.
Note :
On appelait ainsi, au XVIIe siècle, ce petit meuble qui portait flambeau, girandole ou vase. À la fin du XVIIIe siècle et au XIXe siècle, ce nom désigne aussi de petites tables composées de la même façon.

The decorative candlestand or guéridon has been found in French inventories since 1640. The original model has a circular top and central standard. When the torchère developed in the 18th century, the guéridon became the small movable table or table ambulante of many uses. Some of these small tables had two shelves and were, rather similar to the so-called tables à déjeuner.
Movable stands to support a candle stick or lamp were intended to supplement the fixed lighting arrangements of rooms. Such stands, being sometimes made in the form of a black man holding up a circular tray, ebonised and with painted and gilt decoration, were called guéridons, a term applied to young Moors brought from Africa as pages. These guéridons were imported into England from Italy, France and Holland.Terme :
