  Définition

  The press-bed, made to fit into a cupboard or wardrobe, is referred to in Stuart inventories and still made in the 18th century. The press-bed is a press into which a bed is shut. The door forms a tester which, when it is let down, covers the whole front so that one cannot see that a bed is concealed behind it. If one wants to set up the bed, the door is lifted and the poles placed under it.
