The caquetoire was designed with a high narrow upright panelled back, with the top of the arms forming a U-shape. The arms rested on baluster-turned supports continuing to conformingly shaped legs, which were joined with a continuous stretcher close to the floor and mounted on bun feet. The seat was much wider in front since it followed the curves of the arms. The width of the seat in the back was only as wide or slightly wider than the narrow back panel which joined the seat. The back legs were also much closer together than the front legs since they were a continuation of the back panel.
