A test for imbalance of ocular muscles, made by covering one eye and noting its movements while uncovering it again.
Note :
The translator must be careful to distinguish whether attention is given to the covered eye as it is uncovered or rather to the uncovered eye as its fellow eye is being covered. The two books that are currently widely used in ophtalmology differentiate between the two by referring to the first as the cover-uncover test and to the second as the cover test. However, Dorland's Illustrated Medical Dictionary, a reputable dictionary, does not follow this trend. The French language, too, does not differentiate between the two.
