A related succession of organic compounds, each containing one more carbon atom and two more hydrogen atoms than the one before it in the series. ((...)) Thus, for the paraffin series, the generic formula is CnH22n+2. Similarly, the olefin (alkene) series has the generic formula CnH2n, and the aliphatic alcohols, CnH22n+1OH.
