The modern concept of fabric has been defined by Sander (1930, 1948, 1950, 1970) as a very broad concept, denoting the ordering of both geometrical and physical spatial data in a body.
In structural geology, fabric is mostly used as an expression of orientation pattern (expressed by lattice planes in minerals, shapes of the inequant grains, and arrangement of grains in inequant configurations, including foliation, etc). Such structures are called fabric elements.Notes :

In petrography, fabric is used as a degree of organisation beyond structure and texture, but some petrographers used the term fabric synonymously with structure and texture.
In soil micromorphology the concept of fabric was first used by Kubiena.
Different levels of fabric are distinguished: plasmic fabric, basic fabric, elementary fabric, primary fabric, secondary fabric.
Examples of named fabrics: banded fabric, isoband fabric, laminar features, wrinkle marks.Terme :
