Définition :
Petite mouche noire, luisante, qui fréquente les habitations, où sa larve se développe dans certains corps gras, notamment dans le fromage.
Note :
La plus commune est Piophila casei, dont les larves (vers du fromage) pullulent parfois. Le genre fait partie des diptères cyclorhaphes et sert de type à la petite famille des piophilidés.

Cheese skippers first pass through a larvae stage, then emerge as flies, but they are much smaller than the common house fly. These winged insects are often observed where food is decomposing. ((...)) methyl bromide must be applied by professional exterminators equipped with gas masks. The gas rids the curing roomof mites, skippers, rodents, flies, roaches, and any humans careless enough to remain behind. Bacteria and mold are apparently unaffected, and the cheese need not be removed from storage rooms during the gassing.
