Date :Définition
The peace pipe of the North American Red Indians with a stem of up to 1 m length and often decorated with colourful feathers, pears and plaited hair.
Note :
Pater Marquette who sailed down the Mississippi in 1673 up to Arcansas found this pipe among all tribes brodering the river. This calumet pipe played an important part with the Indians in ceremonies held in the presence of foreigners; the chieftains blew from these pipes the first puffs against the sun and into the four quarters of the heavens and then handed over the calumet to the foreigner for smoking.
