Coumarin is the name of a scent contained in Tonka beans, woodruff, melitot and in many other plants.
Note :
Coumarin is synthetically produced by heating a mixture of salicyclic aldehyde, acetic anhydride and sodium acetate. In the plants, it is combined like glucoside and its scent becomes evident only during storage, and in the case of woodruff already after withering; it is an ingredient of many tobacco essences, flavouring.
