The room in cigar factories where the cigars being dried to extract the surplus moisture from them. To prevent the boxes being split by swelling of the cigars, it is necessary to leave them in the pressing jacks during the first 24 hours of the drying process. After the pressing jacks have been removed, the cigars remain for another eight days or so in the curing chamber in which both temperature and relative air humidity can be accurately controlled. The highest temperature is mostly 40° C with a relative humidity content of about 25%. In smaller factories which are not provided with this modern equipment, curing takes longer, sometimes as much as 2 to 3 weeks.
