Définition :
Le champ magnétique autour d'un noyau (H local) est égal au champ magnétique extérieur appliqué moins le champ magnétique extérieur multiplié par une constante σ : H local = (1-σ) H0. La constante σ, est appelée constante d'écran. L'écran autour du noyau est le résultat des électrons qui circulent de telle manière qu'ils s'opposent au champ magnétique appliqué.

The magnetic field at a nucleus (H local) is equal to the applied external magnetic field (H0) minus a constant (σ) times the external magnetic field: H local = (1-σ) H0. The constant σ is called the nuclear screening constant. The screening of the nucleus is a result of the circulation of electrons in such a way as to oppose the applied magnetic field.
