  Amino acid (residue) at one end of a polypeptide chain having its amino group free, i.e. not participating in peptide bond formation.

  Note :

  Identification of amino group terminals in a protein undergoing controlled degradation is part of the procedure of end-group analysis by which amino acid sequences are determined.
