Note :

The most widely used technique for measuring polypeptide hormones in biological tissues and fluids, ((...)) based on the ability of an unlabelled hormone to inhibit competitively the binding of labelled hormone by specific antibodies.
Note :
The hormone concentration of the unknown sample is determined by comparing the degree of inhibition with that produced by a series of standards containing known amounts of the hormone. This technique has outstanding advantages in sensitivity, specificity, practicability, and precision over other procedures and can measure normal circulating levels of hormones with reasonable reliability. The method was first described by Berson and Yalow in 1960 for the measurement of plasma insulin in man. It has also been used to assay nonpeptide substances, such as steroids, prostaglandins, and nucleotides.
