A convenient method of electrophoresis of general applicability that uses a purified, essentially neutral fraction of agar called agarose as a medium, usually at concentrations of 0.5-1.0 g/100 ml.
Note :
Specimens (1.0-3.0 mu) may be added into precut wells or as streaks of specimen dissolved in warm agar. Electrophoresis time may vary from 30 to 90 min. Agarose has a lower affinity for proteins than does paper and some other media and provides good clarity for scanning. The medium has been used for separation of serum proteins, hemoglobin variants, lipoprotein fractions, and lactate dehydrogenase isoenzymes.
