Technique in which a hollow needle is inserted through the abdomen of a pregnant woman and fetal blood is withdrawn from a blood vessel on the placenta close to the umbilical cord.
Note :
Fetoscopy usually performed in the 18th to 20th week of gestation, enables the blood of the fetus to be examined for the presence of abnormal cells and hence the prenatal diagnosis of blood disorders.
