  Définition

  A metal of the group of the common metals that are characterized by comparatively low specific gravities, and which can be used alone or in alloy form for structural or engineering purposes; the term usually excludes the alkali metals, but includes aluminium, magnesium and beryllium.
  
  The low-density metals and alloys; especially aluminium and magnesium and their alloys.
  
  This term is generally used to refer to metals having a specific gravity of less than 3 that are capable of being used for construction purposes; these are aluminum, magnesium, and beryllium. Many others have low specific gravity, especially the alkali metals, but they are too reactive and much too soft for any but chemical use.
