Définition :
Très bon minerai de fer contenant de l'oxyde ferrique Fe2O3 anhydre (hématite rouge), ou plus ou moins hydraté (hématite brune).
Notes :

Il se présente sous forme de resplendissants cristaux rhomboédriques d'aspect métallique, sous forme d'amas ou sous forme terreuse, la dernière forme étant appelée ocre rouge.
