Machine qui convertit l'énergie de l'eau courante ou d'un autre fluide en travail mécanique.
Note :
Les turbines modernes sont soit du type à impulsion soit du type à réaction, utilisant des jets et des pales. Leur principale utilisation est la production d'électricité par l'intermédiaire d'alternateurs. Dans les usines hydroélectriques on trouve trois sortes de turbines hydrauliques : les roues de Pelton, les turbines Francis et Kaplan.

A machine in which the energy of a moving mass of water or other fluid is converted to mechanical work.
Note :
Hydraulic turbines find their major application in the exploitation of natural water heads, produced by damming of rivers, where they are coupled to generators to provide hydroelectric power. Such an arrangement is highly efficient, with up to 90 per cent of the potential energy being converted into electricity.
