  Définition

  A substance which, because of the reactions it causes, is used in analysis and synthesis.
  
  Any chemical compound used in laboratory analyses to detect and identify specific constituents of the material being examined.

  Notes :

  Several thousand chemicals of varying specificity are used as reagents; they are subject to strict specifications, especially as regards purity. Well-known reagents are glacial acetic acid, sulfuric acid, hydrogen sulfide, dimethylglyoxime, and potassium iodide.
  
  Through reagents may be gases, liquids, or solids, they are usually prepared as solutions (in water or common solvents) of various concentrations, e.g. 1 molar, 0.1 normal, etc.
