Note :

Another development traditionally due to Daniel Faber in 1726, was the unfretted (bundfrei) clavichord /. Such a step was long overdue, and it was forced on the clavichord by the steady widening of harmonic vocabulary and range of tonality, the increasing use of equal temperament, and the ubiquitous harpsichord.
