Définition :
État caractérisé par la production récidivante d'hypertrophies polypeuses de la muqueuse des fosses nasales et des sinus qui obstruent la filière respiratoire et entravent considérablement la respiration. On peut en faire l'ablation chirurgicale qui détermine une amélioration, souvent momentanée par suite de leur tendance à récidiver.

A common and widespread disease in which the nose becomes increasingly obstructed by nasal polyps, arising usually from the mucous membrane lining of the ethmoidal air cells but sometimes from the lining of other sinuses, such as the maxillary sinus or the mucosa of the nasal cavity itself. The cause is unknown, and although allergy and infection may be relevant, they are often absent. Treatment is usually surgical, but recurrence is almost inevitable and most patients undergo many operations.
