Hermeneutics is the name of a philosophical position that is closely related to structuralism and phenomenology.
At a more fundamental level, doubt is cast upon the possibility that a computer could ever converse like a human being (i.e. pass the Turing test). It is claimed that there are only particular uses of language in particular contexts, and therefore there can be no universal theory of language use.
From a hermeneutic standpoint, language, reasoning and truth are all defined in a social context. The point of language, for example, is to communicate and this function must be uppermost in our analysis. Thus, rather than stressing a formal, syntactic approach to language, an approach based more upon pragmatics (e.g. speech acts) is proposed.Terme :
