A functional grammar consists of a context-free grammar plus a set of constituent descriptions, organised into sets of alternatives. These specify additional rules that check the features and functions of the components of rules. A functional grammar can be used for both the analysis and generation of text.
Note :
The aim of a functional grammar is to relate the surface structure of a sentence to a functional description of the sentence.
