A substance used to promote fusion (as by removing impurities) especially of metals or minerals.
Note :
The literal meaning of this term is "flow" ((...)) Chemists use it to mean any material or substance that will reduce the melting or softening temperature of another material when added to it; it is not the name of any particular group of substances. Many substances may act as a flux on one material when added to it in small proportions and yet may have their own melting point decreased when the situation is reversed. Fluxing agents are chiefly used in ceramic glazes and in ore smelting.
